Stories from Your Maverick Man: Fear & Courage

Updated: Oct 5, 2021

We're exploring courage this month, which is one of the three main ideals of being a Maverick Man. We have looked at some great quotes and gained some insight about courage.

In your own experience, you've probably already discovered that there are (at least) two kinds of courage: Physical and Moral. Physical courage is the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, intimidation, hardship, and even death or threat of death for the sake of a worthy goal. Valor is courage or bravery, especially in battle.

Moral courage is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, discouragement, or personal loss.

And there appears to be a connection between fear and confidence when in comes to courage. Your confidence can determine the success of a courageous act or goal - basically. That confidence comes from being aware of and honest about your own skills and abilities.

The ideal in courage is not just a rigid control of fear, nor is it a denial of the emotion. The ideal is to judge a situation, confront the fear, and determine, (sometimes in a split second) when to fight fear or when to flee it.

Today’s Maverick Man story will illustrate what we're talking about.
